Why Domestic Health Financing Matters

Sustainable domestic financing is essential for ensuring that communities can access quality health services and that Zambia can strengthen its health system over the long term.

At Alliance for Accountability Advocates Zambia (AAAZ), we advocate for increased domestic investment in health while promoting transparency, accountability and evidence-based decision-making around public resources.

“Our work connects public resources to the health needs of communities through research, budget tracking, advocacy and accountability.”

What We Do

We use evidence, advocacy and public accountability to promote stronger and more sustainable domestic financing for health.

Budget Tracking

We track and analyse public resources allocated to the health sector to identify financing trends, gaps and opportunities for improved accountability.

We engage policy and decision-makers and make evidence-based submissions to promote stronger domestic investment in health.

🏘️

Community Health Needs

We advocate for public resources, including CDF, to respond to identified health needs within communities.

❤️

Reproductive Health

We advocate for sustainable financing for reproductive health and related services, particularly where financing gaps persist.

Our Advocacy Priorities

Explore the issues at the centre of our domestic health-financing advocacy.

We advocate for government to increase the share of domestic resources allocated to health and work towards meeting the 15% Abuja Declaration target.

We advocate for mechanisms such as the Constituency Development Fund to respond to identified health needs within communities, while recognising the limitations of CDF as a standalone financing solution.

We support approaches that strengthen sustainable domestic health financing, including increased health insurance contributions and dedicated revenue measures for reproductive health.

We promote stronger oversight of public resources and follow-up on resource management to improve transparency, accountability and value for money in the health sector.
