AAZ EXPRESSES GRATITUDE OVER POLITICAL PARTIES PEACE PLEDGE SIGNING AHEAD OF THE 12 TH AUGUST 2021 ELECTIONS

OR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Thursday, 15 TH JULY 2021
The Alliance for Accountability Advocates Zambia (AAAZ) is delighted by the
Peace Pledge signing organised by The Coalition for Peaceful Elections in Zambia
and supported by Commonwealth, United Nations, Church Mother Bodies, Zambia
Centre for Interparty Dialogue, NGOCC and Law Association of Zambia on 14 th JULY
2021. It is uplifting to see majority of political parties participating in the forthcoming
12 th August 2021 general elections signing the Peace Pledge amidst the escalating
vices of political violence that Zambia has experienced perpetrated by political
players during the electoral campaign period.
The Peace Pledge plays a very significant role not only in the August elections but
extends in supporting and achieving the global agenda of the Sustainable
Development Goals No. 16 and 17 that looks at enhancing Peace, Justice, Strong
Institutions and Partnerships for the Goals respectively hence as AAAZ we are
hopeful that this Peace Pledge is a stepping stone in fostering a Violence Free and
Fair Election, as an organisation we continue to strongly advise the participating
political parties that the lives of Zambians come first than selfish political ambitions.
Political parties should ensure that their leaders and supporters are controlled and
prohibited to foster political violence and tribalism as this pledge will be achieved
only through pragmatic implementation and not lip service nor paper work.
As AAAZ, we continue to emphasize and encourage the youth and young women to
desist from being used as tools of political violence and tribalism as they are the
most affected; instead youths should foster positive change realizing they are the
majority of Zambia’s population and are fundamental to the country’s sustainable
development.
