The Digital Democracy Project (DDP 3) is a project sponsored by GIZ that aims to promote good governance and citizen-led accountability through the use of digital tools. The project seeks to address the low representation of youth, young women, and persons with disabilities in decision-making spaces by strengthening their capacity to promote participation and transparency.
Project Objectives
Promoting Good Governance and Accountability:
Enhance good governance and citizen-led accountability through the strategic use of digital tools.
Budget Transparency and Accessibility:
Simplify the 2023 and 2024 national budget, focusing on budget lines for Constituency Development Fund (CDF), CDF Act, WDC guidelines, and Local Government Act.
Digital Empowerment for CDF Access:
Increase the capacity of target groups to access Constituency Development Fund (CDF) through digital information and learning platforms by January 2024.
Support for SDGs and Youth Engagement:
Support national and international engagement platforms for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to enhance the planning and implementation of the African Youth SDGs Summit.
Activities
Budget Transparency Initiatives
Develop user-friendly infographics illustrating key budget lines for CDF, CDF Act, WDC guidelines, and Local Government Act.
Translate the infographics into three local languages for broader accessibility.
Disseminate the infographics through various channels, including the AAAZ web and mobile application, social media platforms, and community engagement events.
Advocacy and Legislative Enhancements:
Conduct lobbying efforts through breakfast meetings with key stakeholders to garner support for the access to information bill.
Develop and disseminate policy briefs advocating for improvements in the CDF Act, guidelines, and related legal and policy frameworks.
Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to review and integrate the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services into the project’s framework.
Community Engagement Platforms:
Facilitate town hall meetings in each catchment area for primary targets and their community members.
Provide platforms for engaging local duty bearers in the formulation of Women’s Development Plans (WDPS) and CDF administration.
Implement digital tools to encourage active participation and feedback from the community during these engagements.
SDGs and Youth Engagement Initiatives:
Organize and support national and international engagement platforms for SDGs.
Collaborate with partners to enhance planning and implementation of the African Youth SDGs Summit.
Empower youth to actively contribute to SDGs-related initiatives through digital platforms and community involvement.
