MY ID PROJECT

In Zambia, the National Registration Card (NRC) is not just an official document—it’s a key to accessing basic rights and services. Yet, the process of obtaining an NRC remains hindered by widespread corruption, particularly affecting vulnerable groups such as youth, young women, and persons with disabilities. Despite ongoing efforts to combat corruption, many citizens are still unable to obtain their NRCs due to bribery, favoritism, and other systemic barriers.

OUR MISSION

The My ID Project, supported by Diakonia, is dedicated to addressing these issues by promoting transparency, fairness, and accountability in the NRC issuance process. We aim to raise awareness about the challenges faced by those who struggle to access this critical document and advocate for a corruption-free system that ensures equal opportunities for all Zambians, regardless of their socio-economic status or connections.

OUR GOAL

We envision a Zambia where every eligible citizen can access their NRC without the burden of paying bribes or relying on personal connections. The My ID Project is committed to ensuring that the process for obtaining this important identification document is based on merit and genuine need, not favoritism or exploitation. We work toward creating a system where every Zambian can access their rights with dignity, fairness, and transparency.

WHAT WE ARE DOING

  1. Raising Awareness: We are actively engaged in educating communities across Lusaka province about the impact of corruption in the NRC issuance process, and the steps they can take to protect their rights.
  2. Advocacy for Change: By collaborating with policymakers, government officials, and other stakeholders, we push for reforms that streamline the NRC process and eliminate corrupt practices.
  3. Empowering Vulnerable Groups: Our efforts are focused on ensuring that youth, young women, and persons with disabilities have equal access to the NRC, without facing discrimination or exploitation.
  4. Transparency and Accountability: We work to create a system of checks and balances within the NRC process to ensure that corruption is identified and eradicated.

OUR SUPPORT

This vital work is made possible with the support of Diakonia, an organization dedicated to fostering justice and promoting human rights. Their commitment to fighting corruption and supporting grassroots initiatives aligns with our mission to ensure a fair and transparent NRC system for all Zambians.
